Helen is a diabetes blogger, writer, speaker and advocate; and a PhD candidate. She has a background as a social worker and diabetes educator, and founded and managed Diabetes Counselling Online from 2001 - 2016. She is an expert in diabetes and mental health and currently completing her PhD looking at the pregnancy journey for women with type 1 diabetes. Living with type 1 diabetes herself since 1979 and being the mum of 3 sons, she is passionate about the wellbeing of families affected by diabetes, in particular the issues surrounding pregnancy and diabetes. Helen has also published a picture book for children “Diabetes Can’t Stop Me”, and co written an e book about diabetes burnout. As a diabetes charity founder, Helen has been invited speaker at national and international conferences and is an experienced blogger, author, public speaker and workshop presenter. She was a state finalist in the Australian of the Year Awards and the Telstra Business Women's Awards for her work in diabetes.
